The Art of Reinvention

Rooted in Tradition, Guided by Legacy Growing up in the heart of the Ohio River Valley, I was raised on the philosophy that if you want something done right, you build it yourself. My journey began under the mentorship of my father and grandfather—two men who saw "mechanical wonders" where others saw broken parts. From replacing light switches to repairing engines, they taught me that the true value of a tool isn't just in what it fixes, but in the pride of creating something lasting from scratch.

That lesson became reality when my father and I built our first print shop from the ground up. We didn’t just open a business; we dug the footers, set the blocks, and hammered every truss ourselves after long days at our "regular" jobs. That shop wasn't just a building—it was the foundation of a life dedicated to the craft.

A Journey Through the Lens and the Press For years, my wife, Mary, and I poured our hearts into the world of design and photography. Together, we balanced the analytical with the artistic, growing our printing company into a digital pioneer in the region. When the world shifted toward virtual solutions, I transitioned into professional photography, where I had the incredible honor of documenting life’s most sacred milestones—from a child's first portrait to their wedding day. Working alongside some of the world’s top photographers, I learned that every project, whether a printed page or a captured moment, is a story waiting to be told.

The Birth of Appalachian Craftsman Life has a way of bringing us back to our roots. When the world slowed down in recent years, I found myself returning to the tactile, aromatic world of fine woodworking. I realized that the "mechanical wonders" of my childhood and the "artistic eye" of my career in design were two halves of the same whole.

Appalachian Craftsman is the culmination of that lifetime of learning. Based here in St. Clairsville, we merge traditional woodworking techniques with modern precision—using CNC technology, laser engraving, and hand-rubbed finishes to create pieces that feel both heritage-inspired and timelessly luxury.

Why We Create For Mary and I, this isn’t just a business; it’s a celebration of resilience and the enduring beauty of Appalachian hardwoods. Whether it’s a custom-engraved heirloom, a mixed-media gallery piece, or one of our signature hand-poured candles, every item that leaves our shop carries the weight of three generations of craftsmanship.

We invite you to bring a piece of the Appalachian spirit into your home. Here’s to beautiful things, honest work, and the exciting future we’re building together—one grain of wood at a time.
